The Soft Earth Series explores the quiet beauty of natural surfaces and the gentle traces of the making process. Inspired by the philosophy of wabi-sabi, each piece embraces subtle irregularities, softness of form, and the calm presence of tactility.
Forms are hand-built, allowing the clay to retain the marks of touch: slight undulations, softened rims, and surfaces shaped slowly by hand rather than the wheel. These pieces are meant to feel alive in the hand, tangible and grounded.
Layers of decorating slips are brushed and washed across the clay to create delicate variations in tone and texture. During firing, these slips interact with the glaze and clay body, revealing organic, layered evidences of making, soft transitions, speckles, and flowing mineral patterns that echo stone, sand, and weathered earth.
